Jessica Weinstein
I spent my summer in Providence, RI working in Brown University’s Office of Research Integrity, where I primarily assisted the Animal Research Protection Program (ARPP), an administrative support team for Brown’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). I received a well-rounded and immersive introduction into the industry of animal research regulation. I drafted policies, assisted with committee proceedings, and participated in animal facility inspections. In the MAPP program I learned about the history of animal research and why regulation is so important today; in my externship I gained an appreciation for these processes in all research areas and learned how to apply the principles and skills in an animal welfare-centered career field. With support from my mentors at Brown and Tufts, I was able to present myself to other institutions as a qualified candidate for jobs in IACUC administration, and I have recently accepted a new role at The Forsyth Institute in Cambridge, MA.

MS in Animals and Public Policy
The MS in Animals and Public Policy (MAPP) is an intensive, 12-to-16-month graduate degree program that focuses on human-animal relationships and their implications for policy and community action.
Center for Animals and Public Policy
The mission of the Tufts Center for Animals and Public Policy (CAPP) is to conduct and encourage scholarly evaluation and understanding of the complex societal issues and public policy dimensions of the changing role and impact of animals in society. Work conducted by the Center is based on the tenets that animal well-being matters, that animal and human well-being are linked, and that both are enhanced through improved understanding of human-animal relationships.
