“The Veterinary Innovation Council’s Innovation Awards (VIC Awards) is positioned to be an annual program that is designed to take a look back and recognize those people and organizations who have dedicated themselves to the betterment of the animal health industry through innovations that make a difference in the lives of animals everywhere.”

Tufts at Tech, located at Worcester (MA) Technical High School and part of the Cumming Veterinary Medical Center, has been nominated in the Academic Institutions category of Organization Nominees (vote here). Here is their nomination:

This is a veterinary practice inside of a technical high school and associated with a veterinary assisting program, the first of its kind. It only cares for animals owned by low income clients. 4th year veterinary students make all decisions and provide all care (backstopped by a licensed DVM). 4th year students are much better at making financial decisions and communicating with owners and are empowered to make decisions on their cases. It is the best rotation at Tufts Veterinary School based on student evaluations. Underserved clients now have an option for care of their pets. Veterinary students now get exposure to clients of very diverse backgrounds and economic resources. High school students in the Veterinary Assisting program now both get access to live animals with disease but also now can get a veterinary assisting certification at the end of the program. The clinic was renovated by other high school students in the various other technical disciplines (see video created by students). Read the full article about their nomination
