Anna Pierce, MCM’18

Our next MCM’18 student is Anna Pierce, “Hi, I’m Anna and I am from the mountains of North Carolina. I am a small town girl who has loved animals her whole life and spent every possible moment exploring the mountains in my backyard. During high school, I spent my free time volunteering at the local animal clinic helping with checkups and watching surgeries. I studied cell/molecular biology at Appalachian State University while using my summers to travel and study animals like giraffes and eland in California. This past summer I studied the Columbian ground squirrel in the Canadian Rockies and how climate change is affecting their hibernation patterns. I was very interested in learning about the MCM program because it is so unique in its approach to conservation while having the resources of a veterinary school at its fingertips. I love conducting field research and want to follow the direction of wildlife rehabilitation after I graduate. When I am not studying, I am hiking with my husky, Balto, and my labradane, Fitz. I love to ski, climb, trail run and anything else that keeps me active outside because the mountains are where I am happiest.”
