Miren Schleicher, MCM’18

Introducing Miren Schleicher, MCM’18, “I was originally born in Germany, but have lived in the Boston area for most of my life. I attended Northeastern University for my undergraduate degree and graduated with a BS in Environmental Science with a concentration in Wildlife Studies. Since graduation I have worked as an aquarist working with the penguin colony at the New England Aquarium, originally starting through the Northeastern co-op program and working my way up to a permanent position. Shortly after graduating Northeastern, I traveled to South Africa to spend four months working at the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) and worked with a variety of seabirds as a part of their rescue and rehabilitation hospital. This trip to South Africa was a big part of my decision to further my education. After being on the ground and experiencing firsthand the reality of the conditions for these endangered birds, I realized I wanted to expand my career and create a bigger impact. I’m interested in working with endangered species management, focusing seabirds in particular. My spare time is mostly spent with my dog, a rescued pitbull mix named Harley. I’m also a huge foodie and enjoy both cooking at home and going out to restaurants to try new things.”
