Education:
Bachelor of Social Work, Virginia Commonwealth University, 2017
M.S. in Animals and Public Policy, Tufts University, 2018

What were you doing before entering the Masters in Animals and Public Policy program?
Before entering the MAPP program, I was a veterinary technician at an emergency/ critical care veterinary hospital in Richmond, VA. I recently graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Social Work. As a social work student, I studied the human-animal bond alongside the set curriculum, which culminated in me sharing my research at the 2016 International Society for Anthrozoology Conference in Barcelona, Spain.

What aspects of MAPP led to your decision to join the program?
As an undergraduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University I used social work as an avenue to study my passion, the human-animal bond. Although this was a very meaningful field of study, it was human focused and skewed by the humanitarian views of social work. Upon hearing about the degree offered at Tufts, I realized that a more animal focused avenue was available and I felt compelled to apply.

Interests in and experience with animals
I have always had a fascination with nature and animals. As a child I preferred watching Animal Planet over Saturday morning cartoons. I practiced equestrian sports as a child which sparked a passion for horses and farm culture, and have been a vegan for 8 years. My first job as a teenager was as a vet tech and it was a position I held throughout my undergraduate career. I have also adopted numerous animals from humane organizations, including cats and a bunny.
