This past spring, after growing up on the beaches of the Florida west coast, I graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation. I was on the pre-veterinary track, and through my undergraduate years worked as a veterinary technician at a hospital in the Gainesville area, where we saw a very wide range of species as patients (from cats to monkeys to prairie dogs to bats), and were also very dedicated to treating and caring for local Florida wildlife. I adored caring for wildlife on an individual level, but as I progressed in my degree, found that I wanted to effect change and provide care for wildlife on a broader scale. I love how the MCM program fuses the two areas where I have found passion – veterinary medicine and conservation – through an interdisciplinary One Health framework, and through the program I hope to further explore the interests I began to cultivate during my undergraduate years, in topics such as conservation genetics. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my Labrador mix, Hersh, training for half-marathons, reading, being outdoors in any way, and vegan cooking!
